Get the best insights on smart charging and fleet management

Through a new agreement with Tenix, Boreal will consolidate charging for its entire electric bus fleet onto Tenix Charge, using smart charging algorithms, artificial intelligence, and real-time data to optimize energy consumption, reduce costs, and ensure buses are ready when passengers need them.

“Getting people where they need to go, every day and in all kinds of weather, is at the heart of our public service mission,” says August Rist, Head of Green Energy at Boreal. “To succeed, we must continuously find new and better ways of working. Tenix Charge helps us keep our electric buses ready for service while using electricity more intelligently and achieving more efficient operations across our depots in Norway and Sweden.”

In addition to improving the operational reliability of its electric fleet, Boreal is already achieving significant savings across depots with varying electricity prices and grid connection conditions.

Tenix Charge optimizes charging based on several factors, including daily route schedules, available depot power capacity, and real-time electricity prices. The platform calculates the battery level each bus requires for its next assignment, eliminating the need to charge buses to 100 percent every time, reducing energy consumption and helping to extend battery life.

The result is lower energy costs, longer battery lifespan, and reduced need for manual intervention from depot personnel. Real-time visibility into charging status makes it possible to address potential issues before they affect operations, for example by reallocating buses or prioritizing charging to ensure reliable service delivery.

August Rist says: “This is a great example of how we turn our strategy into concrete action. Through technology, sustainable solutions and continuous improvement, we are strengthening operational reliability, reducing energy costs and providing our operational teams with better tools and decision support for their daily work. That is why we have chosen to consolidate our entire bus operation onto Tenix Charge.”

Tenix CEO Torbjørn G. Krøvel is proud to support Boreal’s digitalisation ambitions:

“Boreal’s decision to bring all three of its bus companies onto Tenix Charge represents exactly the kind of partnership we want to build with operators. We will continue working closely with their operations teams, analysing results together and using those insights to develop the platform further so that it evolves alongside their fleet.” The agreement initially runs for three years and includes options for both expansion and extension as Boreal’s needs develop.
