Saga Tenix and Vy Buss Enter Agreement on Charging Systems for Electric Buses

Tenix and Vy Buss have entered into a framework agreement for the delivery of smart charging systems for electric buses. The agreement represents a significant step in strengthening electric bus operations across Norway and Sweden, ensuring optimal planning, improved efficiency, and high operational reliability for Vy Buss’ growing electric fleet.

As the transition to electric mobility accelerates, transport operators face increasing complexity in managing charging infrastructure and daily operations. Through this partnership, Tenix will provide its advanced charging management solution, Tenix Charge, to support Vy Buss in handling these challenges at scale.

“An increasing proportion of our buses are electric. Electric buses require new tools and routines, which is why we have chosen to purchase a charging management system from Tenix. We look forward to starting and ensuring the best possible charging of our electric buses so that we can continue to transport passengers in an environmentally friendly manner,” says Vidar Hauan, Director of Operations and Development at Vy Buss.

The agreement includes the deployment of Tenix Charge across all charging depots where Vy Buss operates electric buses, both in public route services and commercial transport. Vy currently operates approximately 350 electric buses, and this number is expected to grow significantly in the coming years as part of the company’s broader sustainability strategy. With a total fleet of around 3,300 buses, the long-term potential for electrification is substantial.

Tenix Charge is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing transport infrastructure. The system connects with route planning tools, charging stations, and the Nordpool energy market to ensure that each bus receives the correct amount of power based on its operational needs. By aligning charging schedules with electricity pricing and route requirements, Tenix enables Vy Buss to reduce costs while maintaining reliability.

A key strength of the Tenix Charge platform is its use of artificial intelligence to optimize charging operations. The system continuously analyzes factors such as time of day, traffic conditions, temperature, and route topology. This allows for dynamic adjustments that ensure buses are charged efficiently and ready for service when needed. As a result, Vy Buss can improve fleet utilization, reduce downtime, and enhance overall service quality.

Operational reliability is a critical factor in public transport, and the Tenix solution is built to support exactly that. By automating charging processes and providing real-time insights, Tenix Charge minimizes the risk of disruptions and ensures that buses are consistently available for scheduled routes. This contributes to a better experience for passengers while also supporting the operational teams behind the scenes.

“We greatly appreciate that Vy Buss has chosen Tenix Charge as their charging management system. Vy Buss has made significant progress in the green transition, and we look forward to working with them on the transition to an all-electric bus fleet. A key factor here is safe and efficient operations, ensuring a positive experience for passengers,” says Torbjørn G. Krøvel, CEO of Tenix.

The agreement spans three years, with the option for extension, and is valued at up to 10 million kroner. The initial phase will see Tenix Charge implemented for approximately 70 buses in the Drammen area, with further rollout planned throughout 2024 and beyond. This phased approach allows for continuous optimization and scaling as more electric buses are introduced.

The partnership between Tenix and Vy Buss highlights the growing importance of intelligent charging systems in the transition to sustainable transport. By combining advanced software, data integration, and AI-driven optimization, Tenix supports operators in making electric fleets both economically viable and operationally efficient.
